Oral hygiene is one of the most overlooked facets of human health. Most people neglect the early symptoms of tooth decay which leads to serious dental problems that sometimes become irreparable. Are you having a bleeding gum or are your teeth feeling hypersensitive? All kinds of dental issues must be diagnosed immediately and regular dental check-ups are recommended for people of all ages.  Here are some simple yet powerful measures that you might adopt at home to ensure good dental health for yourself and your family.

Homemade toothpaste:

Let us begin with homemade toothpastes that are fresh and full of natural ingredients to fight tooth decay. A mixture of neem powder with clove oil will make an excellent herbal remedy for all kinds of dental concerns. If the bitterness of the neem bothers you, replace it with gooseberry extracts. Add equal quantities of baking soda, peppermint oil, a dash of salt and a pinch of pepper to make a natural paste for fighting bad breath, tooth decay and bleeding gums.

Salt water gargle:

Add about one teaspoon of rock salt to a cup of lukewarm water and gargle every night before you go to bed. The solution acts like a natural mouthwash which fights plaques, sensitivity and prevents infection. The warm water removes food particles stuck between the teeth and the salt acts on the bacteria that may cause tooth decay. You might also add some peppermint oil to the solution to keep your breath fresh throughout the day.

Oil pulling:

Oil pulling is one of the oldest medical practices that have lost significance with time. Oil pulling involves swishing of sesame seed oil or coconut oil in the mouth for 2-3 minutes. The technique is an old Indian practice believed to prevent tooth decay, reduce tooth sensitivity and strengthen your gums.

Guava Leaves:

Did you know that chewing a few guava leaves can alleviate tooth pain and strength your gums? Surprised? But it has been proved that the tender leaves of the guava plant have anti-inflammatory properties and also act as an effective disinfectant. If you are not comfortable chewing the leaves, boil the leaves in salt water and use the filtered solution as a natural mouth wash.

Garlic:

Garlic is the most humble spice that is readily available in all households. Garlic is a popular flavouring agent but what is less known about garlic is that it has antibacterial properties. Garlic contains a chemical compound called Allicin that detains the growth of bacterial infection thus preventing tooth decay.

Clove Oil:

Clove oil has almost become synonymous with tooth pain. The quickest way to ease toothache is by applying clove oil or clove extracts to the affected tooth. Clove oil acts on the infection by rendering its antiseptic properties and bringing down the pain quickly. Caution should be practiced while applying the clove oil as excess use can cause reverse reactions.

The measures listed above are all 100 percent natural and non-invasive. However you must remember that they are temporary measures to tackle the throbbing pain. A visit to the dentist in South Delhi is the only way to seek a permanent solution for all dental hitches.
